You could describe my holiday studio in Grou as a prime location on the waterfront in the heart of Friesland. 

I’m Jacqueline, and I established VakantieStudioGrou 12 years ago. I live by the water in Grou myself in one of the prime locations in Grou and in Friesland. Grou is a popular tourist destination. That is for good reason: Grou is an incredibly beautiful place to relax. It is centrally located in Friesland and you can get around by boat, bike, car or canoe.

From own home to a holiday studio in Grou

There was just one problem: 12 years ago, there weren’t enough accommodations for tourists to stay. I decided to do something about that. I had about 700 m2 of land on the waterfront, so I extended the back of my own house with a holiday studio. In the end, I added two extra accommodations: a holiday room and a log cabin. The holiday room is located above the studio and the log cabin is next to the water.

Aside from running VakantieStudioGrou, I am an interior stylist and window dresser. That’s why I do the interiors myself. I spend a lot of time on this. When guests enter, they can immediately see my creativity and that I have an eye for detail. For instance, I’ve set out nice lounge areas and lounge chairs everywhere, at and on the water. In the sun-drenched garden of the holiday studio in Grou, I’ve created a communal patio where my guests can relax, cook and barbecue. Guests can also go fishing from the garden. 

Activities around VakantieStudioGrou

If you want to spend your holidays in Friesland, VakantieStudioGrou is an ideal location. The accommodations are next to a harbour where you’ll have no problem finding a boat or canoe. A small beach, nice shops and charming restaurants are all within walking distance. And you’re close to cities like Leeuwarden and Sneek. Are you more into nature? You can easily reach the beautiful nature reserve of Eernewoude by boat, canoe or bike.

Delicious local beer on arrival

Three years ago, I had the idea of offering guests of VakantieStudioGrou a special welcome drink on arrival. I collaborated with a local brewer to develop a weizen beer. It is called Zonnig Grou Bier. This beer is exclusive to the holiday studio in Grou. It is refreshing and very flavourful. It comes in a pretty blue bottle and can be poured into a matching glass. You’ll find the beer in the refrigerator in your room on arrival. Deliciously cold, as it should be!
